Roman Linen Undergarment – 100% Linen

The subligaculum was a basic Roman undergarment, worn either as simple panties or a loincloth. Its form was practical, minimal, and universal — suitable for everyday labour, physical activity, and military life.

Romans wore the subligaculum during exercise, grape pressing, and stage performances. For slaves, it was often the only piece of clothing. For gladiators, it became a distinctive and sometimes highly decorative garment. And for soldiers — especially those stationed in colder provinces — it was an essential layer of comfort.

More than one Roman soldier from Vindolanda famously wrote home asking for warm undergarments to be sent north.
