Terra sigilata
We Are Expanding for You
Very soon, this space will feature a new selection of products carefully chosen and developed to complete your historical equipment and everyday experience.
At Fabrica Cacti, we believe that authenticity is not built solely through armor and weapons. Everyday objects are equally important. They shape atmosphere, credibility, and immersion. A well-prepared camp is not only about shields and helmets — it is also about what stands on the table.
For this reason, we are currently working on introducing high-quality Roman ceramics — including terra sigillata, one of the most characteristic tableware traditions of the Roman world.
What Is Terra Sigillata?
Terra sigillata was the fine tableware of the Roman Empire, produced from the 1st century BCE and distributed across vast territories. It is distinguished by:
-
- Thin-walled, refined forms
- A smooth, glossy red slip surface
- Relief decoration made using moulds
- Workshop stamps marking production origins
The term sigillata derives from the Latin word for “sealed” or “stamped,” referring to the potters’ marks impressed into the vessels. In antiquity, this was effectively a branded product — widely traded, standardized, and instantly recognizable.
Terra sigillata was used in military camps, urban households, and provincial settlements alike. It represents not only utility, but also Roman craftsmanship, organization, and identity.
Authentic Craftsmanship
Our upcoming ceramic collection is being developed in collaboration with one of Europe’s most respected teams of potters specializing in ancient technologies. This will not be loosely inspired tableware. Each piece will be grounded in archaeological evidence, traditional techniques, and careful study of Roman production methods.
These are objects designed not only to complete your reenactment equipment, but also to reconnect everyday life with the material culture of antiquity.
Stay with us.
By mid-year, we look forward to presenting a carefully curated collection that will bring a genuine touch of the Roman world to your camp, your table, and your daily life.
