Leather Ball – Handcrafted in the Spirit of Antiquity

We produce fully hand-stitched leather balls in various sizes, inspired by ancient Greek and Roman traditions. Each piece is crafted from natural leather, sewn by hand using traditional techniques to ensure durability, flexibility, and authentic character.

Historical Background

In ancient Greece and Rome, the leather ball was far more than a toy. It was an important element of physical culture and social life. Ball games were practiced by both young and older citizens, combining competition, physical fitness, and teamwork.

In Greece, one of the most well-known games was episkyros, where two teams competed for control of a leather ball, passing, throwing, and kicking it between players. The game required agility, strength, and tactical awareness — virtues highly valued in Greek society.

In Rome, similar games were played under names such as harpastum and pila trigonalis. Harpastum, in particular, was a dynamic and contact-heavy team game, sometimes compared to modern rugby. It was popular among civilians and legionaries alike, serving both as recreation and as a way to maintain physical conditioning.
